There are ,24-Hour visa-free policy, 72-Hour visa-free policy and 144-Hour visa-free policy in Beijing. By matching some conditions, you could travel in Beijing without applying a China visa in advance.

Take the 24-Hour visa-free policy for example: Visas are not required if you transit through Beijing for a stay of less than 24 hours before heading to a third country or region.

If you want to benefit from the visa free policy, several conditions should be met:

  • 1. You must be in transit to a third country or region, meaning you cannot depart for the country you just came from. For example: USA – Shanghai – Hong Kong – USA. It is ineligible if your journey is New York – Beijing – San Francisco because New York and San Francisco both belong to the US.
  • 2. Your transit time is no more than 24 hours. The 24-hour period is measured from your scheduled arrival into China until your scheduled departure from China.
  • 3. You must hold onward tickets to a third country or region (Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan are treated as separate regions in this case).

You need to provide the documents listed below to apply for 24-hour visa-free transit:

  • 1. Valid passport
  • 2. Onward ticket to a third country (region) with a confirmed date and seat
  • 3. Visa for a third country/region (if needed)
  • 4. Arrival and departure cards (completely filled in)
