9 Days Henan Itinerary for Family with Kids

Day 1: Arrival in Zhengzhou

When you step out of the airport or railway station, your guide will be waiting to greet you with a name sign. You will then be transferred to your hotel.

Day 2: Henan Museum

In the morning, visit the Henan Museum to discover the origins of Chinese civilization through fascinating artifacts and interactive exhibits.

In the afternoon, head to the Zhengzhou Zoo, home to giant pandas, elephants, giraffes, and many other animals that children will love.

Day 3: Shaolin Temple and Kung Fu Experience

Travel to Shaolin Temple (Approx. 1.5-hour drive). Watch an exciting Kung Fu performance, explore the temple and Pagoda Forest.

In the afternoon, a beginner-friendly Shaolin Kung Fu class where both children and adults can learn basic movements from professional instructors.

Continue to Luoyang in the evening (Approx. 1.5-hour drive).

Day 4: Guanlin Temple and Hand-on activity

In the morning, explore Guanlin Temple, dedicated to General Guan Yu, a legendary hero in Chinese history. Children can hear fascinating stories about loyalty and courage.

In the afternoon, visit the Tang Sancai Museum, where kids can explore the colorful world of Tang Dynasty pottery. They’ll see how the famous tri-colored ceramics are made and have fun painting their own Tang-style piece, a creative, hands-on way to bring history to life.

Day 5: Luoyang Highlights

In the morning, visit the world-famous Longmen Grottoes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Marvel at thousands of ancient Buddhist statues and carvings. The area is stroller-friendly, and kids will enjoy spotting the different Buddha figures carved into the cliffs.

In the afternoon, continue to White Horse Temple, the first Buddhist temple in China and an important milestone in the spread of Buddhism throughout the country.

Day 6: Eastern Zhou Royal Chariot Museum and Peony Painting Experience

In the morning you will visit the Eastern Zhouwangcheng Tianzijialiu Museum. It was built over the original site to display the horses and chariots for emperor and officials in the Eastern Zhou period. After lunch at a local restaurant, you will take a stroll around Laochengqu, which means “old district of the city.” It is the first district in Luoyang with many temples, memorial halls and drum towers could be seen.

Afterwards, join a Luoyang Peony Painting Workshop, where local artists teach you how to paint the city's iconic flower using traditional Chinese brush painting techniques. It is a fun and creative activity suitable for both adults and children.

Day 7: Explore Ancient Kaifeng

Drive to Kaifeng (Approx. 2-hour drive). Visit Millennium City Park to experience the vibrant atmosphere of the Northern Song Dynasty through live performances and interactive activities. Stay in Kaifeng. Visit Dragon Pavilion, as one of the seven great ancient capital cities in China, the city of Kaifeng has much to offer in terms of ancient buildings and historical relics.

Day 8: Iron Pagoda and Zhuxian Town

Start the day with a visit to the Iron Pagoda, one of Kaifeng's oldest and most iconic landmarks, renowned for its elegant glazed-brick architecture and nearly 1,000 years of history. Afterwards, continue to Zhuxian Town, one of China's four famous ancient towns and the birthplace of the renowned Zhuxian Town Woodblock New Year Paintings.

Wander through its historic streets before joining a hands-on woodblock printing workshop. Under the guidance of experienced artisans, learn the traditional printing process and create your own New Year painting featuring classic designs such as Door Gods, the Chinese character for good fortune, or Chinese zodiac animals.

Day 9: Zhengzhou Food Tour and Departure

Head to Zhengzhou Spend your final morning exploring Zhengzhou's local food scene. Sample famous Henan dishes and traditional snacks at local restaurants or food streets, and enjoy some last-minute shopping before departing for your next destination.

9 Days Henan Itinerary for Seniors with Slow Travel Pace

Day 1: Arrival in Luoyang

Upon arrival, you’ll be warmly greeted by your guide and driver, who will escort you to your hotel for check-in. Take some time to rest and recover from your journey.

Day 2: Museum and Peony Painting

In the morning, visit the Zhou King City and the Chariot and Horse Museum, where the grand chariot pits display the world’s only surviving “six-horse chariot” remains, showcasing the majesty of ancient royal processions.

Day 3: Luoyang Highlights

In the morning, explore the Longmen Grottoes, one of China’s three greatest grotto complexes. Day 4: Luoyi Ancient City

Day 5: Sui-Tang Luoyang City National Heritage Park and Mingtang and Tiantang

Spend the day exploring the Mingtang and Tiantang Scenic Area, the centerpiece of the Sui and Tang Luoyang City National Heritage Park.

Drive to Kaifeng in the morning (Approx. 1-hour drive). Visit Millennium City Park and begin your tour with a scenic boat ride through the recreated waterways of the Northern Song capital. Explore the lively streets while enjoying spectacular live performances that bring the customs, folk traditions, and everyday life of the Song Dynasty to life. Day 9: Zhengzhou and Departure

Day 1: Arrival in Zhengzhou

Start your day with an adventure at the stunning Longtan Grand Canyon (Approx. 1.5-hour drive). Follow the winding trails past crystal-clear pools and towering red cliffs, and feel the cool mist from the waterfalls as you hike along the scenic plank paths.

Afternoon, visit the Luoyang Ancient Tomb Museum, where you can explore beautifully preserved underground tombs and murals that reveal fascinating insights into ancient burial culture.

Day 5: Luoyang Cultural Experience

Day 7: Yuntai Mountain Adventure

Adventure Yuntai Mountain, walking beside waterfalls and crystal-clear streams, and taking in spectacular canyon views. If you're feeling adventurous, try the glass walkway or simply enjoy the cool mountain air before staying overnight near Yuntai Mountain.

Day 8: Yuntai Mountain – Wanxianshan (Guoliang Village)

After breakfast, drive to Wanxianshan Scenic Area (Approx. 1.5-hour drive). Spend the afternoon exploring the famous Guoliang Village, best known for its spectacular Cliffside Road (Guoliang Tunnel), which was hand-carved through the mountains by local villagers. Continue to Tianchi Lake and enjoy panoramic views of the rugged Taihang Mountains. As the sun sets, take in the breathtaking scenery before spending the night in Guoliang Village.

Day 9: Kaifeng

Drive to Kaifeng (Approx. 2.5-hour drive). Afterwards, stroll through the city center, browse local markets, and sample Kaifeng's famous street food.

Return to Zhengzhou (Approx. 1-hour drive) for your departure.

Day 1: Arrival and Explore Luoyang Museum

Welcome to Luoyang, one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China! Meet your guide, who will assist with your transfer and hotel check-in to ensure a smooth and comfortable start to your journey. Afterwards, visit Luoyang Museum which shows ancient Luoyang from all perspectives. Here you will see exquisite tri-coloured glazed potteries, various bronzeware, ancient clay sculpture, treasured calligraphy and paintings, etc.

Day 2: Longmen Grottoes, White Horse Temple, and Luoyang Old Town

After breakfast, go appreciate the Buddhist stone statues carved into the steep limestone cliffs at Longmen Grottoes. Next, wander through the shrines of the 1,900-year-old White Horse Temple and explore the origins of Chinese Buddhism.

Continue to Dengfeng (Approx. 2.5-hour drive). for an overnight stay, ready to explore Shaolin Temple the following morning.

Day 5: Shaolin Temple, Admire Shaolin Kungfu Show and Pagoda Forest

Visit Shaolin Temple. It is a great chance for you to observe the daily life and meditation of the monks. Wonderful Kungfu performances at the Shaolin Temple Martial Arts Hall are performed by the monks every day, which usually lasts about half an hour.

Day 6: Kaifeng

Drive to Kaifeng (Approx. 1-hour drive). Begin your day at Daxiangguo Temple, one of China's most famous Buddhist temples with a history spanning more than 1,400 years. Experience the tranquil atmosphere of this historic temple.

In the afternoon, Continue to Kaifeng Prefecture, the best-preserved ancient government office in China. Learn about the legendary judge Bao Zheng, explore the restored courthouse and prison, and watch lively reenactments that recreate the judicial life of the Northern Song Dynasty. Stroll through the city center, browse local markets, and sample Kaifeng's famous street food. Return to Zhengzhou.
