Chengdu Jiuzhaigou Valley and Huanglong Itinerary

There are currently two ways to reach Jiuzhaigou. The first is by train from Chengdu to Zhenjiangguan (it is said that the train from Zhenjiangguan to Huanglong will open in early 2025), and then from Zhenjiangguan transfer to Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou. The second option is to fly from Chengdu to Huanglong Airport, then tour the Huanglong Scenic Area, and afterward transfer to your hotel in Jiuzhaigou.

How many days are needed to tour Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou? Generally, 3-4 days are sufficient. Three days can be a bit tight, but it is enough; four days are a bit more relaxed, which is more suitable for older travelers.

What other routes can you take around Jiuzhaigou? If you are interested in temples and grasslands, you can go from Jiuzhaigou to Ruoergai Grassland, then to Langmu Temple, and finally to Xiahe. From Xiahe, you can continue to Xining or Lanzhou.

3 Days Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou Valley Itinerary

Jiuzhaigou Valley

Day 1: Arrive Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou Valley

Arrive at Huanglong, visit Huanglong National Park and then continue driving to Jiuzhaigou Valley, arrive in Jiuzhaigou and check into your hotel. Enjoy a local Tibetan or Qiang minority cultural performance and dinner.

Day 2: Full Day in Jiuzhaigou National Park

Visit Rize Valley in morning, starting with Primeval Forest, and continue to Grass Lake, Swan Lake, and Arrow Bamboo Lake, Panda Lake, Five Flower Lake, and the stunning Pearl Shoal Waterfall. Visit Zechawa Valley in afternoon, starting with Long Lake (Chang Hai) and Five-Color Pond. Enjoy the tranquility and natural beauty of the area.

Day 3: Jiuzhaigou and Departure

Explore Shuzheng Valley in morning, including Shuzheng Lakes, Shuzheng Waterfall, and Nuorilang Waterfall. And then you will end your tour, take a flight or train back to Chengdu.

5 Day Chengdu Huanglong and Jiuzhaigou Valley Itinerary

Huanglong National Park

Day 1: Arrival in Chengdu

Arrive in Chengdu, be met and transfer to your hotel. Visit the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding. Enjoy watching pandas and learn about the conservation efforts. Explore Wuhou Shrine to delve into the history of the Three Kingdoms period. Stroll through Jinli Ancient Street for traditional snacks and souvenirs. Savor a Sichuan hotpot dinner. Explore Chunxi Road for some shopping and nightlife.

Day 2: Chengdu to Huanglong by Flight

Take a morning flight from Chengdu to Huanglong, be met and transferred to visit the Huanglong Scenic Area, a famous for its colorful pools, waterfalls, and limestone formations. Visit the Huanglong Temple and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. After the tour, transfer to Jiuzhaigou and check into your hotel.

Day 3: Jiuzhaigou Valley

Start early to explore Jiuzhaigou Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site. You will visit Rize Valley. Enjoy the crystal-clear lakes, waterfalls, and lush forests. Take plenty of photos and soak in the breathtaking scenery.

Day 4: Jiuzhaigou Valley

Today you will visit Shuzheng valley and Zechawa valley. Engage with local Tibetan culture and possibly visit a Tibetan village. Return to your hotel and enjoy a traditional Tibetan dinner.

Day 5: Jiuzhaigou to Chengdu by Flight, Departure

Be met and transferred from your hotel to Huanglong Airport. Be met in Chengdu, spend the afternoon at leisure in Chengdu, perhaps visiting People's Park or Kuanzhai Alley. Do some last-minute shopping or relax at a teahouse.

10 Days Chengdu Huanglong Jiuzhaigou Valley Langmusi Xiahe and Lanzhou Itinerary

Labrang Monastery

Day 1: Arrival in Chengdu

Arrive in Chengdu, bet met and transferred to your hotel. Visit the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, Wuhou Shrine and Jinli Ancient Street. Enjoy a Sichuan hotpot dinner. Visit Chunxi Road for shopping and nightlife.

Day 2: Chengdu to Huanglong by Flight

Take a morning flight from Chengdu to Huanglong Airport. Be met and transferred to the Huanglong Scenic Area. Explore the Huanglong Scenic Area and the Huanglong Temple and enjoy the scenic beauty.

Day 3: Jiuzhaigou Valley

Start early to explore Jiuzhaigou Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Toda you will visit Zechawa Valley and Shuzheng Valley including Long Lake, Five-color Lake, Nuorilang Waterfall, Shuzheng Lake, Tiger Lakes, etc.

Day 4: Jiuzhaigou Valley

Toda you will explore Rize Valley including Five-flower Lake, Mirror Lake, Wild Forest, etc. Return to your hotel and enjoy a traditional Tibetan dinner.

Day 5: Jiuzhaigou to Langmusi (approximately 6-7 hours’ drive)

Drive from Jiuzhaigou to Langmusi, known for its picturesque landscapes and Tibetan monasteries. Visit Langmusi Monastery and Sertri Monastery, exploring their unique architecture and cultural significance. Hike around the beautiful surrounding areas. Check into a local guesthouse and enjoy a relaxing evening.

Day 6: Langmusi to Xiahe (approximately 4-5 hours’ drive)

Drive from Langmusi to Xiahe, check into your hotel upon arrival. Visit Labrang Monastery, one of the six major Tibetan monasteries of the Gelugpa school. Explore the monastery's extensive grounds and learn about Tibetan Buddhism. Enjoy a traditional Tibetan meal and relax in Xiahe.

Day 7: Xiahe

Continue exploring Labrang Monastery, attending a morning prayer session if possible. Walk the kora (pilgrimage path) around the monastery with local pilgrims. Visit nearby Sangke Grassland, experiencing the vast open landscapes and local nomadic culture. Engage in optional activities such as horseback riding. Return to your hotel in Xiahe for the night.

Day 8: Xiahe to Lanzhou (approximately 5-6 hours’ drive or by fast train)

Drive from Xiahe to Lanzhou, check into your hotel upon arrival. Visit the Lanzhou Waterwheel Garden and the Yellow River Mother Sculpture. Stroll along the Yellow River and enjoy the riverside scenery. Explore the bustling Zhengning Road Night Market for local snacks and delicacies.

Day 9: Lanzhou

Visit the Gansu Provincial Museum to learn about the region's history and culture. Explore the White Pagoda Mountain Park for panoramic views of Lanzhou. Take a boat ride on the Yellow River for a unique perspective of the city. Visit the Baita Temple and explore its serene surroundings.

Day 10: Lanzhou Departure

Free time for last-minute shopping or sightseeing before your departure.
