7 Days Mongolia and China Travel Itinerary, Plan a Week Beijing and Ulaanbaatar Trip
Is 7 days enough to visit China and Mongolia? If you choose just the two most important cities, it is sufficient; for example, Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia and Beijing in China.
In one week, you can explore the essence of these two capitals. In Beijing, you can visit the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, and engage in some cultural experiences. In Ulaanbaatar, you can visit Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, the Genghis Khan Statue Complex, Hustai National Park, and participate in cultural activities such as horseback riding and cooking local cuisine.
Below, we have prepared four itineraries: one for families with children, one for a slow-paced trip suitable for seniors, one for young people who enjoy outdoor activities, and one for those who love cultural experiences.

7 Days Beijing and Ulaanbaatar Itinerary for Family with Kids
Day 1: Arrival in Beijing
Arrive in Beijing and transfer to your hotel. Visit Tiananmen Square and take a short walk to Qianmen Street. Dinner at a restaurant in Wangfujing and explore the night market.
Day 2: Beijing
Visit the Forbidden City for a guided tour, including child-friendly interactive exhibits in morning. Explore Jingshan Park for panoramic views of the city and a relaxing stroll. Dinner and traditional Peking Duck at Quanjude Restaurant.
Day 3: Great Wall
Drive to Mutianyu Great Wall in morning and enjoy the cable car ride up and toboggan ride down, which kids will love. After lunch, drive back to Beijing and visit the Beijing Zoo to see the giant pandas in afternoon. Enjoy a Kung Fu Show in evening.
Day 4: Beijing to Ulaanbaatar by flight
If you take an overnight train, it takes about 31 hours. Visit the Temple of Heaven, where kids can enjoy flying a kite in the vast park. Take a noon flight to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Arrive in Ulaanbaatar and transfer to your hotel. Enjoy a relaxing evening.
Day 5: Ulaanbaatar
Travel to visit Gandan Monastery to see the impressive Buddhist architecture and meet the monks. Explore Sukhbaatar Square and visit the National Museum of Mongolia for an educational experience about Mongolia’s history and culture in afternoon. Dinner at a Mongolian BBQ restaurant.
Day 6: Ulaanbaatar, Nomadic Culture and Outdoor Fun
Day trip to the Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, visit the Aryabal Meditation Temple and enjoy the stunning landscapes in morning. Enjoy horseback riding and meet a local nomadic family to learn about their way of life. Return to Ulaanbaatar for dinner and rest.
Day 7: Ulaanbaatar Departure
Travel to Bogd Khan Palace Museum to see the beautiful architecture and artifacts. Enjoy some last-minute shopping at the State Department Store or Narantuul Market before departure.
Note: you can take a flight back to Beijing and travel to your next destination. Or you can flight to your destination in Central Asia.
7 Days Beijing and Ulaanbaatar Itinerary for Seniors
Day 1: Arrival in Beijing
Be met and transferred to check into your hotel. Rest and adjust to the new time zone. Enjoy a leisurely dinner at a local restaurant near your hotel.
Day 2: Beijing
Explore Tiananmen Square and stroll through the square and learn about its historical significance. Visit Forbidden City and explore the palace with a guided tour to provide context without rushing. Take a panoramic view of the Forbidden City from Jingshan Park. Dinner at a traditional Peking duck restaurant and enjoy a Chinese Kung Fu Show in evening.
Day 3: Beijing
Drive to Temple of Heaven and visit this historic site and enjoy a leisurely walk through the surrounding park. Continue to the Summer Palace where you can take a slow-paced tour of the gardens and pavilions, and enjoy a boat ride on Kunming Lake. Attend a Peking Opera Show in evening.
Day 4: Beijing, Great Wall and Hutongs
Drive about 2.5 hours to Mutianyu Great Wall and explore this less crowded section of the wall. Take the cable car to minimize walking. Return to Beijing after lunch, enjoy a Hutong Tour and explore Beijing’s traditional alleys with a rickshaw tour, visiting a local family. Free time for a relaxed dinner and evening stroll.
Day 5: Beijing to Ulaanbaatar by Flight
Take a morning from Beijing to Ulaanbaatar. Check into your hotel and take a rest in morning. Arrive in Ulaanbaatar, transfer to the hotel, and rest.
Day 6: Ulaanbaatar
Morning travel to Gandan Monastery and visit the largest Buddhist monastery in Mongolia. Drive to National Museum of Mongolia where you can learn about Mongolian history and culture at a slow pace. Dinner and a traditional Mongolian music and dance performance.
Day 7: Ulaanbaatar Departure, Nomadic Culture and Natural Beauty
Drive to Terelj National Park where you can take a gentle drive to the park, stopping at scenic spots along the way. Continue to visit Genghis Khan Statue Complex en route. Enjoy a leisurely lunch in the park. Travel to Aryapala Meditation Temple and experience the serene surroundings and panoramic views before your departure.
7 Day Beijing and Ulaanbaatar Adventure Itinerary for Young Travelers
Day 1: Arrival in Beijing
Arrival in Beijing and be met and transferred to your hotel, and Check-in. After a short rest, drive to visit Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City, explore the historic heart of Beijing and visit these iconic landmarks. Visit Wangfujing Night Market and experience the vibrant night market and try local street food.
Day 2: Beijing, Great Wall Hiking
Drive about 2.5 hours to the Great Wall at Mutianyu Section, and spend the day hiking this less crowded, scenic area. After your lunch, continue Great Wall Hike and enjoy the stunning views and take a cable car or toboggan ride down. Drive back to Beijing and enjoy a traditional Peking Duck dinner.
Day 3: Beijing to Ulaanbaatar by PM Plane
Visit Summer Palace and explore the beautiful gardens and lake of the Summer Palace plus a cruise on the lake. Take your flight to Ulaanbaatar afternoon, transfer to the airport for your flight to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Be met and transferred to Ulaanbaatar, check into your hotel and rest.
Day 4: Ulaanbaatar
Drive to Gandan Monastery and visit the largest and most significant monastery in Mongolia. Visit National Museum of Mongolia and learn about Mongolia’s rich history and culture. Explore Sukhbaatar Square, stroll through the main square and enjoy the local atmosphere.
Day 5: Horse Riding and Nomadic Experience
Drive to Terelj National Park, explore this picturesque park located just outside of Ulaanbaatar. Enjoy Horse Riding and experience horse riding through the stunning landscapes of Terelj. Visit a nomadic family and learn about their traditional lifestyle. Ger Camp, stay overnight in a traditional ger (yurt) and enjoy a campfire dinner.
Day 6: Hiking and Explore the Terelj National Park
Hike to the iconic Turtle Rock and visit Aryabal Meditation Temple in morning. Continue Hiking and explore the beautiful trails and enjoy the serene nature. Drive back to Ulaanbaatar in afternoon.
Day 7: Ulaanbaatar Departure
Visit local markets for souvenirs and traditional crafts before your departure.
7 Day Beijing and Ulaanbaatar Cultural Immersions Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Beijing
Arrive in Beijing, be met and drive to your hotel, check into the hotel, and rest after your flight. Enjoy a traditional Peking Opera performance at the Liyuan Theatre.
Day 2: Beijing, Historical and Cultural Exploration

Day 4: Beijing, Temple and Market
Visit Temple of Heaven and explore the magnificent temple and its surrounding park. Drive to Panjiayuan Antique Marke and discover a wide range of antiques, collectibles, and traditional crafts. Participate in a calligraphy class and practice writing Chinese characters. Enjoy an authentic hot pot meal at a local restaurant.
Day 5: Beijing to Ulaanbaatar by Plane
Take a morning flight from Beijing to Ulaanbaatar. Be met and transfer to your hotel in Ulaanbaatar. Visit the largest and most significant Gandantegchinlen Monastery in Mongolia in the afternoon. Enjoy a cultural show featuring throat singing, traditional instruments, and folk dances in evening.
Day 6: Ulaanbaatar, Nomadic Culture and Cuisine
Morning visit the National Museum of Mongolia, explore exhibits on Mongolia’s history, culture, and heritage. Visit a traditional nomadic family’s ger (yurt) and learn about their way of life and participate in hands-on activities like milking a cow or making traditional dairy products in afternoon. Enjoy a traditional Mongolian barbecue dinner with local delicacies.
Day 7: Ulaanbaatar Departure, Nature and History
Morning tour to visit Bogd Khan Palace Museum, the winter palace of the last Mongolian emperor. Climb up the Zaisan Hill for a panoramic view of Ulaanbaatar and the surrounding landscape. Visit a Felt Making Workshop and learn the traditional Mongolian craft of felt making and create your own felt items.
