Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan Province, has a history of over 2400 years. The city is known for being the gateway to the Silk Road that facilitated trade between Tibet, Sichuan, Myanmar, and India. Today, the city is Yunnan's political, economic, and cultural center. It is also the provincial center for transport, science, and technology and has become a top tourist destination worldwide.

Kunming has a pleasant climate, which accounts for its nickname 'the City of Eternal Spring.' The temperature in Kunming is pleasant year-round. Additionally, Kunming is the center of Yunnan's minority culture. There are 26 ethnic minorities there, including Yi, Bai, Miao, Dai, Hani, and others in that region. Each group has its own festivals such as the Torch Festival of the Yi people, the Golden Temple Fair, etc. What’s more, Kunming is home to renowned local dishes. Kunming, one of China’s first 24 National Historical and Cultural Cities, has a history spanning more than 2,000 years. As early as 278 BC, the Dian Kingdom was established here as its capital. In 765 AD, the Nanzhao Kingdom built Tuodong City, marking the beginning of Kunming’s urban development. During the late Ming Dynasty, Kunming even served as the capital of the Southern Ming regime. Throughout history, the city has been the political, economic, cultural, and transportation hub of Yunnan Province, and today it remains a vital center for commerce, communication, and tourism in Southwest China.

Kunming is a land of cultural diversity, home to 52 ethnic groups. The Han people make up 83.16% of the population, while ethnic minorities account for 16.84%, including the Yi, Bai, Hui, and many others. Among them, the Yi people form the largest group, with a population of over 513,000. Festivals such as the Yi Torch Festival and the Miao Flower Mountain Festival are widely celebrated and renowned both in China and abroad. The Torch Festival (July/August (days 24 to 26 of the sixth lunar month)):The Torch Festival is a traditional celebration for Yi people.
