Kunming, the capital city of Yunnan Province, has a history of over 2400 years. The city is known for being the gateway to the Silk Road that facilitated trade between Tibet, Sichuan, Myanmar and India. Today, the city is the political, economic and cultural center of Yunnan. It is also the provincial center for transport, science and technology and has become a top tourist destination worldwide.

Kunming has a pleasant climate, which accounts for its nickname 'the City of Eternal Spring.' The temperature in Kunming is pleasant year round. Additionally, Kunming is the center of Yunnan minority culture. There are 26 ethnic minorities there that include Yi, Bai, Miao, Dai, Hani along with others in that region. Each group has its own festivals such as the Torch festival of Yi people, the Golden Temple Fair and so on. What’s more, Kunming is home to renowned local dishes.
