Introduction to Guilin
The following is used to describe Guilin, “The scenery of Guilin is the finest under heaven.” Characteristic of green mountains, crystal clear waters, unique caves, and beautiful stones, Guilin is located northeast of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It is considered the pearl of China’s thriving tourist industry due to its natural wonder. Every year it attracts millions of visitors domestic and abroad.
The name of the city is translated as “the forest of sweet osmanthus trees,” which is true. Visitors can smell the fragrant osmanthus flowers throughout Guilin, particularly in August when the flowers bloom. With a population of about 5 million, it has an area of approximately 27,800 kilometers squared. The many ethnic minorities there include the Zhuang, Yao, Hui, Miao, Mulao, Maonan and Dong. They’ve all contributed to the cultural fabric of the city.

Guilin Li River
The Li River (Lijiang) is a beautiful river in Guilin. With limestone karst hills standing erect alongside the river, it is one of China’s most famed scenic areas. Spanning 437 kilometers, the source of the river is the Mao’er Mountains in Xing’an County and flows through Guilin and Yangshuo to the Pearl River in Wuzhou City, east of Guangxi. Li River refers to the section that runs from Guilin to Yangshuo which is 83 kilometers long where you can see the same view displayed on the 20 Yuan Chinese note. Li River has been depicted in countless literature, painting, and photographing. In May 2007, it was ranked by National Tourism Administration as the AAAAA (highest ranking) scenic spot.

Introduction to Ethnic Minority Groups in Longsheng
There are many ethnic minority groups living in Longsheng Autonomous County, such as the Yao, Zhuang, Miao, Dong, and so on. Ethnic minorities in Longsheng account for 76% of the whole population. “The Yao live in all the mountains; the Zhuang live along all the waters; the Miao live in all the forests; and the Dong live in all the fields.” This sentence generalizes the distribution of ethnic groups in Longsheng vividly.

Traditional Yao Clothing
You can find some of the most outstanding examples of traditional Yao costume in Nandan County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Traditional clothing includes both ceremonial dress and everyday clothing. A strong motif in this area reflects the importance of the chicken in local Yao life.
Guilin, located in the northern Guangxi Autonomous Region, has a subtropical monsoon climate. It enjoys favorable weather conditions, as is reflected in its mild temperature as well as abundant sunshine and rainfalls. Blessed with an average temperature of 19.3℃, Guilin offers its inhabitants comfortable living conditions. It has a frost-free period of 309 days, with an average temperature of 7.9℃ in January (the coldest month) and 28.3℃ in July (the hottest month). Guilin offers distinct views every season. However, the best time to visit Guilin is from April to October.
Spring (from March to May): Spring is the season when everything comes back to life. While most of northern China is still frozen, Guilin is full of blossoming flowers and budding leaves. In early spring, the average temperature is around 10℃. You’d better wear waterproof and windproof jackets as cold winds and drizzles are common during this period of time. You are advised to bring umbrellas or raincoats as well. When cruising along the Li River. The winds are especially strong, so an extra layer of clothing is recommended.

The three characters together give one a sense of reliability. With a history of more than 10 years and a few branches in Guilin, Mc Found features cuisines and cooking styles of northern China. The food in Mc Found is exquisitely prepared and cooked. There, chefs aim to provide the clients with a feeling of home, instead of an expensive restaurant.

In Chinese, “Forest of Fortune” is “聚福林.” The Forest of Fortune lies on Zhengyang walking street in downtown Guilin. You can find many kinds of dishes there at a reasonable price. The soups and rice porridges there are highly recommended.
