Located on Futoushan Mountain in the northern suburbs of Chengdu in Sichuan province is the Panda Breeding and Research Base. It is about 10 kilometers away from the downtown area.
As the world’s only museum that places importance to the critically endangered giant panda, the Giant Panda Museum is an indispensable part of the base. It features pictures of pandas and introducing their habitat, what’s more important, giving visitors a comprehensive education on their characteristics and habitat in the wild. Books and scientific literature on giant pandas throughout history around the world are also available in the museum. Additionally, it houses giant panda specimens, fossils and dissected pandas.
The museum opens a door for visitors to learn about pandas and their evolutionary history. Also, visitors can learn about present distribution in the wild, the current situation as an endangered species and the main purpose of scientific research.
