Highlights of Beijing
Beijing is the cultural and historical center of China. During this 4-day tour, you will visit many cultural heritage sites and relics like; the majestic Forbidden City, the world famous Great Wall, the Royal Garden Summer Palace, the Temple of Heaven and the local people’s courtyard houses in Hutongs. You will also try the local famous roast duck and get to know all the highlights in Beijing.
Highlights of Beijing: The Classical & Must in China's Capital City
Day 1: CCT’s personal guide will wait for you at the airport arrival hall, holding your name sign. The guide and driver will transfer you from the airport to the hotel safely in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle. Your guide will help you check into the hotel and give you some ideas for the rest of the day.
Hotels recommended: Beijing luxury hotels - Aman at Summer Palace, St. Regis, Fairmont, Peninsula, Hilton Beijing Wangfujing or similar; Boutique hotels – Hotel G Beijing, The Opposite House, Han’s Royal Garden, Cote Cour Boutique Hotel, Red wall Garden Courtyard Hotel or similar
Day 2: Tian’anmen Square, the largest central square in the world, hidden with rich recent history, is a good start to the day. Walk through the Square to The Forbidden City in five minutes, admire the historic home of 24 emperors and their households from the Ming Dynasty to the end of the Qing Dynasty. An a la carte lunch is arranged at a fine local restaurant. After lunch, drive a short distance to The Temple of Heaven. It is a complex of Taoist buildings where emperors of Ming and Qing dynasties prayed for good harvests. During the sightseeing, you may have a stopover at a contracted pearl shop, where you will get to know how people grow oysters to make beautiful pearls and even buy one at a reasonable price. There is no pressure to visit and buy.
- A: A lot of walking is involved today because the selected sites are huge and no vehicles are allowed. Expect rough blue bricked pavements inside The Forbidden City. Comfortable shoes are recommended.
- B: Use the hotel bathroom before the day tour starts, try to avoid public toilets. Our selected restaurants are equipped with clean flushed or squat toilets.
- C: Shopping is optional but not compulsory.
Day 3: An early rise for a big breakfast, and then we will head for The Great Wall. The Great Wall at Mutianyu is selected as it is less crowded and more original. It is a bit further (1.5 hours'drive) but well worth it. A two-way cable car is included to save energy for the 3-hour hike on the Wall. Authentic Chinese dishes await you at a nearby local restaurant to re-energize you for the rest of the day. You may have a stopover at a contracted cloisonné factory to get to know the ancient handcraft. There is no pressure to visit and buy. You then will head back for the city and take a rickshaw tour in zigzag Hutongs. The rickshaw puller will lead you to a local family living in a traditional courtyard; feel free to talk to the host and hostess about their daily lives. Finally, you will climb up the Drum Tower to have a bird's eye view of the Hutong areas. Dinner at Dadong Roast Duck Restaurant finishes the day.
- *Wear comfortable shoes for the Great Wall hike. Bring bottled water along as well. A lot of sunscreen is needed. Put all the necessary items in a backpack.
Day 4: Today’s tour starts from the Summer Palace, which was once the imperial garden mainly and is composed of Kunming Lake and Longevity Hill (Changshou Hill). You will take a leisurely boat ride on the Kunming Lake and visit the Garden of Virtue and Harmony or the Tower of Buddhist Incense. The Palace is quiet and has everything to offer, culture, history, architecture and a museum. After that, you will have a photo stop outside of the Bird Nest and Water Cube on the Beijing Olympic Green. Lunch is arranged at a fine local restaurant (try the wheat flour dishes and lamb meat specialties), then you will be transferred to the airport to catch your flight out of Beijing.
- *Pack up all your belongings and check out of the hotel, you will head for the airport after the sightseeing.
