4-Day Highlights of Taiyuan (1 night) and Pingyao (2 nights) Itinerary

Day 1: Taiyuan, Arrive in Taiyuan and check into your hotel. Visit the Jinci Temple, a beautiful ancient Taoist temple with a rich history and stunning architecture. Have a delicious traditional Shanxi-style lunch at a local restaurant, where you can try dishes such as dumplings, hand-pulled noodles, and roasted pork. Visit the Wuyi Square, a popular gathering place for locals and visitors alike. In the evening, visit the Taiyuan Night Market, a bustling street market filled with street food stalls, vendors selling souvenirs, and lively entertainment.

Day 2: Taiyuan to Pingyao, Take a morning train to Pingyao, a well-preserved ancient city with a rich history and cultural heritage. Check into your hotel in Pingyao. Visit the Pingyao Ancient City Wall, a well-preserved city wall that provides stunning views of the city and its surroundings. Explore the ancient city streets and alleyways, admiring the well-preserved traditional architecture and cultural heritage. Day 3: Pingyao, Visit the Rishengchang Exchange Shop, the first draft bank in China, to learn about the city's financial history. Day 4: Visit some of the many temples and monasteries on Wutai Mountain, including the Bodhisattva Puxian Temple and the Manjusri Temple. Return to Datong in the evening.

4-Day Taiyuan Qikou Ancient Town and Wutai Mountain Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Taiyuan and check-in at a hotel. Explore the city and visit popular tourist attractions such as Jinci Temple, Twin Pagoda Temple, and Shanxi Museum.

Day 2: Take a train or drive to Qikou Ancient Town. Spend the day exploring the charming ancient town, known for its well-preserved Ming and Qing dynasty architecture and stunning views of the Yellow River. Overnight stay in Qikou.

Day 3: Take a train or drive to Wutai Mountain. Explore the scenic mountain, home to numerous Buddhist temples and monasteries, including the famous Pusading Temple. Overnight stay in Wutai Mountain.

Day 4: Continue exploring Wutai Mountain and visit the remaining temples and monasteries. Return to Taiyuan or proceed to your next destination.

4-Day Datong Taiyuan and Pingyao Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Datong and check into your hotel. Visit the Yungang Grottoes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of China's largest ancient Buddhist cave temple complexes.

Day 2: Visit the Hanging Monastery, a unique structure built into a cliff face. Take a walk around the Huayan Temple, a Buddhist temple known for its ancient architecture. Take a train to Taiyuan in the evening.

Day 3: Arrive in Taiyuan and check into your hotel. Visit the Jinci Temple and the Twin Pagoda Temple. Explore the Wuyi Square and the People's Park. Stay overnight in Taiyuan.

Day 4: Take a train to Pingyao, a well-preserved ancient city. Visit the Pingyao Ancient City Walls, the Rishengchang Draft Bank Museum, and the Shuanglin Temple. Explore the Pingyao Old Town and visit the City God Temple, the Zhenguo Temple, and the Qingxu Taoist Temple. Take a train back to Taiyuan or your next destination.
