Taiyuan Travel Seasons

Taiyuan is located in the warm temperate continental monsoon climate zone with an annual average temperature of 9.3. It’s cold and dry in winter and hot in summer with a significant difference in temperature between the day and night. In summer, the sunlight is intense in Taiyuan and is windy. As Taiyuan is rich in coal resources, there are usually black-sands borne in the winds. If you travel to Taiyuan in the spring or summer, you should bring sunglasses and caps with you. You should also take good care of your eyes if you wear contact lenses.

The best time for traveling to Taiyuan is between May and October. The Jin Memorial Hall temple fair held in the second day in the seventh month in Chinese lunar calendar has a history of hundreds of years and it’s an occasion for the local people to offer sacrifices. The nearby farmers build stages for the local opera performances during the temple fair. In the nighttime, there are traditional festivities and fireworks displays. Shanxi International Folk Arts Festival is annually held in September. First held on September 21, 1991, this festival is held in Taiyuan annually.
