Panmen Gate

Panmen Gate

Located in the southwestern region of Suzhou City, Panmen Gate is one of the symbols of ancient Suzhou. An important part of the Panmen Scenic Area, Panmen Gate is the only gate with both land and water in China. On top of the gate, you can see the canons of the Qing Dynasty and a large stone that was once used to block the gate.

Historical documents confirmed that over 2,500 years ago, during the Warring States Period, the King of the Wu State Helu ruled Suzhou building 8 gates to guard Suzhou. Of the 8 land and water gates during that period, Panmen Gate is the only one in existence.

Ruiguang Pagoda, Wumen Bridge, Wuxiang Temple, and Fangsheng Pool in the Panmen Gare Scenic Area are all precious historical and cultural heritages in China. Pavilions, corridors, bridges, forest, and so on were built to reflect the scenery around Panmen Gate.
