Gyalthang Dzong Hotel

Angsana refers to a type of green tree commonly known in the tropical rainforest of Asia and known for its irregular blossoming of golden flowers. Angsana Hotel is named after this flower. Unlike its sister brand, Banyan Tree, Angsana is known for its boutique hotels, which are filled with cultural diversity. From the cloud forest in Sri Lanka to the lama monasteries in Tibet, Angsana has found its way to different parts of Asia, as its footprints resemble a palette scattered with different colors. Currently, Banyan Tree Hotel Groups have established 17 hotels, 48 spas and 53 boutiques in 19 countries worldwide.

Gyalthang Dzong Hotel is a chain hotel of Angsana, which is located in Shangri-La. It is a paradise on earth described in Lost Horizon by the British novelist James Hilton. As a land influenced by Tibetan culture, this paradise on the northwestern corner of Yunnan Province was originally named “Zhongdian” before the Chinese government changed it to Shangri-La. Amid the Rituobo Valley, the hotel features architectural styles of Tibetan monasteries. The hotel rooms are all expressive of Tibetan culture marked by a blending of bright colors including orange and maroon. They also include Tibetan symbols and images made of strings, which symbolizes good luck. The rooms face the center of the hotel, where a quiet courtyard stands. The hotel is a 15 minute walk to the downtown area and 10 minute drive to Shangri-La Airport.
