Suzhou Culture
Having a long history, Suzhou has given birth to the unique GuSu culture. Suzhou is the birthplace and the center of Wu culture in the history, consequently, all areas from the garden architectures, silk embroidery and folk customs, to painting, calligraphy, seal cutting and poetry genres accumulate the Gu Su culture continuously. All these illustrious cultural achievements are the historical and typical contribution to the Wu culture, which, at the same time, is also the special and remarkable contribution to Chinese culture.
There is ancient city of Suzhou that Montesquieu who is the Master of French Enlightenment calls an "uncanny workmanship" and the water town landscape formed on its basis; "Wu Ge" (halberd made in Wu state during the Spring and Autumn period) which is admired by the famous patriotic poet named Qu Yuan; classical gardens with human wits which are listed as world cultural heritage sites. There is also magnificent silk, Suzhou embroidery (one of the four famous embroideries in China), and the ancient dignified architectures of Fragment hill faction as well as the process of Wuzhong district in Suzhou.
What is more, there is also the Kunqu Opera regarded as the ancestor of opera drama, the Suzhou Pingtan Opera defined as the most beautiful voice of China, and the Taohuawu Woodblock New Year Prints known as that of "Taohuawu occupies the south China, and Yangliuqing represents the north China."
