Karakul Lake

Karakul Lake

Karakul Lake lies at the foot of iceberg Mushihtako Mountain and is 191 kilometers away from the city center of Kashgar. It has an elevation of 3,600 meters, is 30 meters deep, and has a total area of 10 square kilometers. It is an alpine ice-worn and morainal lake. The reflection of the majestic snowcapped Mushihtako Mountain along with snow beside them is a fascinating scene.

The Subhas Prairie around this rare plateau lake is luxuriant with grasses, flocks and herds. Khalkhas people often go there to stay. Tajik yurts and cottages scatter the prairie. There are also professional camping sites for tourists who go for camping in the summer and autumn. Restaurants and hotels can also be easily found.

The sky is always blue and so is the lake. The mountain peaks and the lake add radiance and beauty to one another. The scenery is as beautiful as that of a painting or poem, allowing you to fall for it. Along the lake, there are tourist reception sites, with sufficient provision of tents, yurts, rafts, camels, and horses.
