Xijiang Qianhu Miao Ethnic Village

Xijiang Qianhu Miao Ethnic Village

Xijiang Qianhu Miao Ethnic Village is the largest Miao ethnic village throughout China, which is also known as “primitive ecological environment” by anthropologist and experts due to its well preserved natural environment and the ethnic culture of the Miao.

The Miao ethnic minority in Xijiang has a long history, which can be traced back to Chiyou tribe in 559 BC. It has its own Miao culture system before migrating to Xijiang. Everyday, they use drums as correspondence tools, which is rarely seen elsewhere. It is the unique way of communicating in different households that makes it more mysterious. Also, it is characterized by traditional festivals. One of the most famous and important festivals is the Guzhang Festival, which is the biggest festival of ancestral worship in Xijiang. The local people attach importance to this festival, thus, it is seen as the top embodiment of Miao spirit and culture.
