Hong Kong movie is a successful story in the history of movie. Over the past 20 years, Hong Kong, with about 6 million people is a top movie kingdom all over the world. The number of films produced has almost surpassed that of all the western countries. It becomes the world second most exporter in films after America.

Hong Kong film is the place of origin of Chinese film industry. In 1896, film was introduced to Hong Kong; in 1898, commercial movies were projected; in 1901, the first cinema named Xilaiyuan was appeared. It can be said that the development of mainland film is shadowed by the development of Hong Kong film of that time.
