Guizhou
Located in the southwestern part of China, Guizhou Province is adjacent to Sichuan Province and Chongqing Municipality to the north, Guangxi Province to the south, Yunnan Province to the west, and Hunan Province to the east. Its provincial capital city is Guiyang.
Guizhou is a mountainous province. Most of the mountains lie in the northwest of Guizhou while the southeast is relatively flat. The western part of the province forms part of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau. Maotai, made in the Chishui river valley area in the northern part of Guizhou Province, is a well-known alcoholic beverage worldwide for its extremely special fermentation technique.
With various forms of mountains and rivers, Guizhou is a beautiful “Natural Park”. In this “park”, caves are glorious, wild animals are rare and strange, cultural and revolutionary heritages are well-known to the nation, mountains, rivers, caves, and forests complement each other. There are numerous world-famous tourist attractions such as the Huangguoshu Falls which belong to the largest waterfalls in China, Dragon Palace Scenic Area, and Maling River Valley, and so on.
Guizhou is one of the provinces that boast the most ethnic minority groups, next only to Yunnan and Xinjiang. The population of ethnic groups in Guizhou accounts for 38% of the total population. They include Tujia, Yao, Miao, Yi, Qiang, Dong, Yilao, Zhuang, Buyi, Bai, Gelao, Maonan, Shui, etc.
The large population of ethnic minorities in Guizhou Province provides various ethnic festivals throughout the lunar calendar of the year. Activities of singing and dancing, Lusheng drums, bullfighting, horse racing, pipe playing, climbing up knife-ladder, and so on offer you a different kind of excitement and freshness.
