Tour Itinerary: Beijing - Guiyang - Kunming - Dali - Lijiang - Shanghai
Day 1 Beijing Arrive in Beijing. Rest to adjust for jet lag and new environment, currency change. Small welcome banquet in the evening.
Day 2 Beijing Visit the Forbidding City in the morning. Tour of the downtown Beijing in the afternoon: 'Hutong', the traditional zigzagging aisles and lanes in Beijing city. Visit the living quarters of ordinary Beijing residents - quadrangles, the squared houses existing since 300 years ago. Tian’anmen Square. Evening meal: Beijing Roast Duck.
Day 3 Beijing Trip to the Badaling Great Wall. A short drive away is the statue-lined Shenlu (Spirit Road) leading to the Ming tombs, here you can see some marvelous stone sculptures. Dinner: traditional Sichuan cuisine.
Day 4 Beijing Visit the Confucius Temple, Lama Temple, Hongqiao Market, Temple of Heaven. In the evening, visit The Fine Arts Institute of China. Informal meeting with painters or calligraphers. Dinner with students and professors of the Institute.
Day 6 Beijing-Guiyang by Air Visit Qianling Mountain Forest Park in the afternoon. Tour of city in the evening. Enjoy local snacks.
Day 7 Guiyang Trip to Anshun, visit Huangguoshu Water Falls (the highest waterfall in China) and Dragon Palace (one of the biggest water-eroded caves in Asia). Dinner: local cuisine.
Day 8 Guiyang Trip to Huaxi (Flower Stream). Visit homes and kindergartens of the Miao Minority. Dinner: Miao Minority cuisine.
Day 9 Kunming Train trip to Kunming. Tour of the city in the afternoon. Dinner: traditional Yunnan Food.
Day 10 Kunming Visit the Stone Forest. Watch Yunnan minority dances in the evening.
Day 11 Kunming Go to the Western Hill to get a bird's-eye view of the Dianchi Lake and the city. On the way, stop by the Ethnic Village where the colorful cultures of Yunnan's different ethnic groups are represented. Afternoon is free for your own exploration.
Day 12 Kunming-Dali Take a fishing boat ride across the Erhai Lake. The lake looks an ear ("er" pronounced in Chinese). Back on land and visit the Three Pagodas. In the evening, you can freely explore the Dali Old Town.
Day 13 Dali-Lijiang In the morning, visit Dali's surrounding Bai villages. Have lunch at one of the Bai families. Bai is one of the minority nationalities of China with population of 1.13 million. Drive to Lijiang, on the way to Lijiang, you will stop by the Butterfly Spring, which got the name from a heartrending story.
Day 14 Lijiang The city of Lijiang is the center of Naxi people's homeland. Venture into the countryside around the city to observe life in Naxi minority villages and to admire the beautiful spring wildflowers through a little hiking. Back to town to explore the Black Dragon Pool Park and attend a Naxi music demonstration. Naxi music is one of the most ancient music in China. As a segregated town, Lijiang maintains the culture, language and music as it was thousands of years ago.
Day 15 Lijiang Exploration on your own in Lijiang. You can do it on foot or on bike. Lijiang's ancient streets will give you tremendous satisfaction.
Day 16 Lijiang - Shanghai Fly from Lijiang to Shanghai via Kunming. After a good rest, enjoy the night scene of the most prosperous city in Asia. Dinner: traditional Shanghai cuisine.
Day 17 Shanghai Visit the gorgeous Bond and Pudong Financial District, meanwhile enjoy the sharp contrast while harmonic co-existence of old (1930's banking building on the west side of Huangpu River) and new (21st century financial center). Enjoy modern night life at Xin Tian Di bar street.
Day 18 Shanghai Departure to your city.
