Wuhou Memorial Temple

Located in the southern suburb of Chengdu, the Wuhou Memorial Temple is dedicated to Zhuge Liang, the Martial Marquis of Shu in the Three Kingdoms period. It is known by every household that Zhuge Liang is a personification of noble character and intelligence. Memorial temples created many temples after his demise, including the Wuhou Memorial Temple in Chendu.

The current temple, rebuilt in 1672, has an area of 37,000 square meters. The temple consists of five sections, namely the Gate, the second Gate, the Hall of Liu Bei, the corridor, and the Hall of Zhuge Liang. All of these are characterized by an architectural direction of running south to north. The most valuable cultural relics within the temple that was set up in 809. The huge stele, 367 centimeters high and 95 centimeters wide, is called the Triple-Success Stele. The three successes are as followed: an article written by Pei Du, a famous minister of the Tang Dynasty who served four emperors in succession, calligraphy by Liu Gongquan was one of the most brilliant calligraphers in Chinese history, and a statement about the morality and achievements of Zhuge Liang. Surrounded by old cypresses and classical red walls, it is swimming with a sense of nostalgia.
