Beijing Sanwei Bookstore

Beijing Sanwei Bookstore is different from Sanwei Reading Room in Shaoxing in Hangzhou. Beijing Sanwei Bookstore is located in Fuxing Gate, Xicheng District in Beijing City. The name Sanwei Bookstore originated from the Sanwei Reading Room of Shaoxing in Hangzhou where the founder of Chinese modern literature-Lu Xun held readings. Sanwei figuratively refers to “three kinds of tastes” in poems, books, and classics from many renowned scholars. Those that visit the store usually have an appreciation for  both books and tea since the bookstore is connected to a teahouse.

The first floor is the bookstore and the second floor is the teahouse decorated with various old paintings, lanterns, and a classic sun blind, and so on. There are various old books sold in Sanwei Bookstore. After making a purchase, you can go to the teahouse upstairs and enjoy the live jazz or traditional Chinese music performance. It is not just a store or business venture, but a public space where your mind meets that of writers.

On weekends, some concerts are held on the second floor. On Fridays, jazz is held and on Saturdays, there is classical Chinese music. Sanwei Bookstore is Beijing’s best place to experience traditional Chinese music. You can also enjoy tea and snacks there while reading.
