Beijing Liu Li Chang-Antique Market

Beijing Liu Li Chang-Antique Market

Located in Heping Gate, Beijing City, Liulichang is one of the oldest commercial streets with a variety of antiques, artifacts, paintings, calligraphies, potteries, carpets, vases, books, scrolls and so on for sale.

With a long history, the name “Liulichang” originated from a colored glaze (liuli) factory (chang)’s name during the Ming Dynasty. The factory produced glaze for the palaces then. During that time, Liulichang was a favorite place for scholars, painters, calligraphers and poets to go to. They gathered at Liulichang to compile books, paint, and compose poetry. Later, it developed into a famous cultural center in Beijing. The antique market wasn’t created until the middle of the Qing Dynasty.

On this 800-meter street, you can find all kinds of antiques, old coins, scrolls, calligraphy materials, stamps, old books and so on that can’t be found elsewhere. Even if you aren’t interested in buying any of these items, it is worth the visit to  experience the old and unique constructions in Beijing. There are also many traditional teahouses, wine shops, and restaurants.
