As one of the best-preserved parts of the Great Wall, Mutianyu section of Great Wall used to serve as the northern barrier defending the capital and the imperial tombs. First built in the mid-6th during the Northern Qi dynasty, Mutianyu Great Wall is older, less crowded, more original than Badaling Great Wall.

  Mutianyu Great Wall Hiking:

  After about 90 minutes driving, you will reach the Mutianyu Great Wall and start your exciting Great Wall hiking that takes about 4 hours. The Mutianyue Great Wall is regarded as the most ideal section where hikers can do mountain hiking as Mutianyu Great Wall doesn't start from the ground that is very different from other sections of the Great Wall. Hiking on the Mutianyu Great Wall, you can enjoy both the mountain hiking as well as the Great Wall hiking. There are 20 towers (numbered from right to left) on the Mutianyu Great Wall snaking along the mountain ridge as long as 3000 meters. There you can enjoy the superb and breathtaking views of the Great Wall. Autumn is the best season to hike as the sight is very charming with the maple is red and yellow here and there. It offers you a best time to shoot and hike.

  Jinshanling Great Wall:

  Jinshanling Great Wall lies in Luanping County, Hebei Province, and it is 125 kilometers northeast of Beijing. Connecting to the Simatai section of Great Wall, this section starts from Longyu Pass in the west and ends at Watching Beijing Tower in the east. It was built in 1570 during the Ming Dynasty and it is one of the few sections built in the Ming Dynasty that remain complete. About 10.5 kilometers long, this section has 5 passes, 67 towers, and 2 beacons. Although it is a bit smaller and narrower compared to Badaling Great Wall and Mutianyu Great Wall, it boasts complex and well-preserved fortification systems and gorgeous natural scenery.

  Jinshanling To Simatai Great Wall Hiking:

  It is about 12km and 5 hours from Jinshanling to Simatai Great Wall. There are 18 big towers on Jinshanling Great Wall but more than 30 including small ones. There are many upwards steps during this part. So you are should be in good health condition that you can take this hike. This part is less crowded and untouched attracts lots of hikers from all over the world, and most of them are photographers. The sunrise and sunset is the moment for shoot. After today’s hiking, we will drive back to the downtown.

  Simatai Great Wall:

  The Simatai section of the Great Wall, not far from the Gubeikou section.Known for “dangerous, strange, deep, elaborate, and complete” The Simatai section of the Great Wall is close to the Gubeikou section. It lies at Gubeikou Town in the north of Miyun County, 120 kilometers from Beijing. Built in the early Hongwu years (1368-1398) of the Ming Dynasty and later repaired by Qi Jiguang, this section is one of the few sections built in the Ming Dynasty that remained relatively complete. It is said by a renowned expert of Great Wall that the Great Wall of China tops all the buildings in the world, while the Simatai Great Wall tops all the Great Wall. In 1987, Simatai Great Wall was inscribed into the List of World Cultural Heritage.

  Simatai Great Wall Hiking:

  Before your breakfast, get up early to shoot the sunrise if it is permitting. After breakfast at your hotel, you will start Simatai Great Wall hiking the east section for about 3 hours. There are 16 watchtowers built at intervals of Simatai Great Wall. It takes about 3 hours to reach the 12th watchtower. Beyond this stage the condition of the stairs and walkways is poor and difficult, and the passage becomes steep and narrow, so it is safer to use the adjacent footpath rather than try to walk on the Wall. The hiking will end at the 12th watchtower because the towers from 13th to 16th are forbidden to hike as it is dangerous. After this exciting hiking, you will have your lunch at a local farmhouse restaurant and drive back to your hotel downtown Beijing in the afternoon.
