About Xian
Xi’an, the capital city of Shaanxi Province, is one of the four ancient capitals in China that served as 12 imperial capitals for about 1,120 years. It is the eastern terminus of the Silk Road. Xi’an was known as “Chang’an” before the Ming Dynasty. With a history of more than 3,100 years, Xi’an is a world-famous tourist destination. It is a real treasure trove of historical and cultural relics. Among them, the Terracotta Warriors made in the Qin Dynasty is the most well-known home and abroad.
If China is a big tree, Beijing would be the crown of the tree, while Xi’an would be the deep and firm roots. In this ancient capital city, the 5000-year deposit of the Chinese culture is still spreading, including customs, virtues, traditions, etc. Xi’an, an equivalent great ancient capital city as famous as Athens, Cairo, and Rome, the spirit of being a great city is unrestrained.
There are so many things remained here. Whatever place you name, a few national treasures or a pile of bricks from the Qin Dynasty can be dug out. The buildings and tombs here cannot truly present this ancient city, because here, the atmosphere is filled with classics and legends that receded in the long historical river. Thinking of the camel bell at the beginning of the Silk Road, the envoys from other parts of the world who came here to pay respect to the Emperor, Monk Xuanzang who translated lections under the light, and Yang Guifei who danced in a luxurious dress…, one may unconsciously have a mix feeling of modernization and history while walking along the streets and city walls.
The city walls of Xi’an remain still and Yanta Towers erect high. Among them, there is a myriad of skyscrapers and cars. Restaurants spread all over the city, offering a feast for the stomach of visitors. It is impossible to describe Xi’an in full details in a few paragraphs. You can get your own feeling of Xi’an when you set foot to this charming land and experience the mixture of the past and the present.
